Kim T.

Kim’s experience as an interpreter began in 1994 in the fair city of Fargo, North Dakota where she interpreted and translated part-time in the medical field for several years while attending college. As a novice interpreter, she attained certification through the University of Minnesota’s medical interpreting track in the early stages of its program via a traveling professor.

Kim attained a BS in Electrical Engineering from North Dakota State University in 1997. In addition to part-time interpreting work, she also supported herself by tutoring struggling math students at Moorhead State University. During her summer breaks she would travel to the east coast where she worked as a product inspector, testing industrial auto parts and circuit boards in Massachusetts and Florida.

In December of 2000, Kim moved to St. Cloud and began working full-time as an interpreter. Her experience includes medical, community and social service appointments. Kim is well liked by patients and medical staff for her ability to show empathy and caring for all patients while maintaining a professional distance. She is a hard worker and is very easy to get along with.

Since coming to the United States from Vietnam in 1987, Kim and her family have treasured their cultural heritage even more and work to keep it alive by speaking Vietnamese in the home.

Congratulations, Kim, on achieving Interpreter of the Month, July 2005!

Elodia’s experience as an interpreter started at a very young age interpreting for her family members who did not speak English. At the age of 3 her family immigrated to the United States from Durango, Mexico looking to work as migrant workers in southern Minnesota. Elodia has always helped her parents and other family members with interpreting. She then went on to help others in the community by interpreting at clinics and other locations. Elodia’s 1st job as an interpreter was for Three Rivers Community Organization interpreting for members of the community in many capacities such as applying for energy assistance or registering kids for the Head Start program.

Elodia has passed the court interpreter training program through the MN State Court system. She has also earned an Associates Degree in Sales Marketing Management from Southern Technical College in Faribault, and is working towards her LPN degree. Elodia hopes to one day earn her Registered Nurse degree.

As an active member in the Hispanic community, Elodia has been involved with many volunteer activities. In the past she has participated in a group called “Latinas” which helps to prevent teen pregnancy and keep kids in school; she has also volunteered in a similar sex education program in the Northfield school district. Currently she acts as a volunteer interpreter for Rice County school district parent teacher conferences. Elodia has a strong sense of values and is strongly dedicated to abiding by the Interpreter’s Code of Ethics. In her free time, Elodia enjoys helping members of her community stay connected to their Hispanic heritage.

Congratulations, Elodia, on achieving Interpreter of the Month, July 2005!
