| “Interpreters
must find ways to express words, ideas and processes that may have
no equivalent in the target language.” |
Interpreting is the art of converting oral messages expressed in one language
into their equivalent in another language. Interpreters do not generally speak
word for word, but rather concept for concept by selecting terminology that
makes sense in the new language. There are two kinds of interpreting: consecutive & simultaneous.
Consecutive interpreting is a process where the interpreter repeats what
each speaker is saying into each of the respective languages one phrase at
a time.
As this format promotes true dialog, it is best used in medical appointments
and other one-on-one settings.
Simultaneous interpreting is real-time
interpreting. This sort of interpreting is often seen at conferences
or seminars as well
as court hearings and jury trials. Our on-site interpreting services
are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. |
